My Personal Top 8 Picks Of Comics Media Of 2023

1. Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library: The Graphic Novel (2023) is a fun adaptation of the first Mr. Lemoncello book. It features mental puzzles, diverse characters, and should be fun for readers that are ages eight and up.

2. Fantastic Four (2022-Present) is one of the more engaging Fantastic Four runs in my opinion. It features inventive new uses for the foursome’s powers. Some actual growth for the characters’ respective personalities. Also there is a long time certain side character who actually becomes a main character in this run. Finally the art and colors are amazing in each issue.

3. Static Team-Up: Anansi (2023) is a great one-off story that seems to be in its own universe. It a comic that I think is worth recommendation for ages ten and up despite its official rating saying different.

4. Doctor Strange (2023-Present) is currently seeing fresh ideas. It is also featuring what is arguably one of the most well balanced casts a run of Doctor Strange has ever had. Not to mention the colors are often astounding. The letters are also well placed. Finally the interior art has just been amazing on the majority of the pages per issue.

5. Doctor Who: Doom’s Day: A Doctor In The House? (2023) features great lettering and some very good art. While it is a part of a larger multi-media event it works just fine as a solo piece.

6. Gargoyles: Dark Ages (2023-Present) has so far been a strong mini-series. It fills in the franchise’s history like prequels do, but arguably it does not try to make the reader feel that the  main characters face artificial danger.

7. The web comic Mother Lover which can be found at motherlovercomic.com is one that I just found out about this year. It is a slow burn romance between two mothers. Like most web comics it is a labor of love for the creators and the updates are slower. As for the writing it is very realistic in terms of dialogue and situations. While the art will come across as either high-medium quality depending on what a reader’s individual standards are.

8. Killchella (2023) did not always get a recommendation out of me when reviewing it in single issue form. However, I think it works better when one reads all of it at once, particularly when it comes to the supernatural aspects.
