Strange (2022) Issue 10 Review

Covers

The main cover is by artist Lee Garbett. While Garbett uses a rather standard design and color palette it (debatably) still has a unique feel about it.

Artist Iban Coello and colorist Alejandro Sánchez create a variant cover that has medium-level reliance on supernatural fantasy elements. Though the colors and overall design are eye-catching there seems to be some flaw involving angles or depth.

The variant cover by artist Francesco Manna and colorist Flavio Dispenza goes into a cliche route for demonizing Clea Strange. Yes, it looks okay as a standard visual, but considering Clea Strange’s supernatural origins are not demonic this equates into a simple cash grab.

While not credited on this issue’s credits/recap page the studio Netease Games apparently did a variant cover for this issue. The individuals involved are not mentioned and it looks like a generic mid-1990s era comic book trading card.

Story

Writer Jed McKay does a commendable job with the script despite some arguable flaws with the plotting. Penciler Marcelo Ferreira, inker Roberto Poggi, and colorist Java Tartaglia conclude this series with some interesting visuals. Whether they are exciting visuals will depend on how rushed one thinks this series, and this specific issue’s, plotting has been. That said, there is one moment where a particular character looks like a lumpy blob trying to match a humanoid shape. Lastly, letterer Cory Petit does a fine job with placement and sizing, but the choices for certain colors of text are poor, at least in this reviewer’s opinion.

Three steps above barely recommended status.
